Dave Winer adds Discussions to Twitter

Dave Winer is always inventing things. He just invented an easy way to start a discussion about a tweet. Dave explains Discussions in Twitter:
Yesterday I soft-launched a little project I'm working on called twdsc.us. Today the service gets a little more real, because now you can create discussions around tweets too, and not just your own tweets, anyone's. In other words, this could get interesting."
Here's a discussion I started about Brandon sheets doing a bad thing on spymaster.

Chris Brown Sued for Assault and Battery:
On March 13, 2009, Rosen took a photo of Brown playing basketball at The Universal City gym and attempted to flee the premises when some of Brown’s bodyguards noticed him and yelled after him. An LA Fitness employee allegedly attempted to block Rosen’s exit and proceeded to grab his clothing and body. After falling down the stairs, Rosen claims one of the bodyguards picked him up by his shorts and physically assaulted him, causing further injuries.
Can your bodyguard pick someone up by the shorts if you take a photo of them?

BostonGlobe: Couple's problems sadly add to drama
The Gosselins did invite us to peek through the curtains when they agreed to be the subject of a docu-reality series. And for a long time, they capitalized. As Jon explained on the air, they turned their lives into a business, complete with lucrative book deals and speaking engagements for Kate, the more gregarious and limelight-loving of the pair. Of course, everything changed in the meantime, from their working arrangements to their family dynamics. How could the Gosselins have expected otherwise?

The key to finding a parking spot

Dixie Zepher Mowhawk

Madeleine Blais shares advice from Ann Banks in her Boston Globe OP-ED piece, What to tell my journalism grads:
"'The key to finding a parking spot is to drive to exactly where you want to be and only then to start looking for a place to park. Your passengers will probably try to undermine your confidence in this plan by urging you to take the first place you come across - claiming that 'we aren't going to do better than that.' Ignore them. You need to demonstrate to the Parking Gods that you expect to be lucky. In parking, as in life, start by going after exactly what you want. Because you never know.'"

The Twitter TV Show Isn't Realy A Twitter TV Show, but Twitter and TV is Cool!

Twitter Blog: Twitter Goes Hollywood?:
"During the 2008 presidential elections, Hack The Debate showed us how Twitter could make television interactive and possibly even have a democratizing effect on the medium. The power of Twitter was harnessed to create new, compelling, and engaging programming. CNN was an early innovator with Twitter too. Our openness made it all possible.

Twitter's open approach might have the power to transform television—the dominant communications receiver worldwide. We're very excited to see where these experiments take us."

Death With Dignity in Massachusetts

State House

Choosing when to die was "truly what she wanted to do," says friend | Seattle Times Newspaper:
"Rather than die in agony or spend her final days in a drug-induced haze, Fleming swallowed a fatal dose of barbiturates in her apartment Thursday night — becoming the first person in Washington to end her life under the state's new 'Death with Dignity' law."
We need a law like this in Massachusetts.

Who's working on it?

V - Upfront Trailer

I loved V - The Series. This looks good and will help me get over the loss of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I Had a Flat Tire

Perkins St & Jamaicaway, Boston, MA 02130, United States

I had a flat tire.

There's a Gibbs Service Station on Centre Street in JP. The mechanic there, Charlie, is good at fixing tires.

I drove my car in, after inflating the tire.

Told him I had a leak.

He said, "I'll take a look at it right now."

What!?

That was somewhat of a "No Way!" moment because that never happens at service stations, but Charlie is always like that.

That's why I always bring my cars to him when they need tire work.

In the end the tire needed to be replaced.

I could have gone over to BJ's to get a discount, but I had Charlie order a tire and install it.

He even called me at home to apologize that it wouldn't be ready in the morning, but would be done in the afternoon because his suppliers didn't have it in stock.

Great service.

Thanks Charlie!

Massachusetts Death with Dignity Act

Hospital Hallway

It's time for a Massachusetts Death with Dignity Act.

I just read this article in today's Globe: Battle is on to allow sufferers to end life.

Two states already have Death with Dignity acts, Oregon and Washington.

Compassion & Choices, a nonprofit organization, improves care and expands choice at the end of life.

Compassion & Choices of Washington (C&C) provides advocacy, counseling, and emotional support to qualified individuals who desire a peaceful, humane death.

Is there any activity in Massachusetts?

I was standing in his way, so he hit me.

I was standing in front of Roche Bros. supermarket in West Roxbury, talking with Kevin McCrea after having signed his nomination papers to get him on the ballot to run for Mayor of Boston.

All of a sudden I was hit in the right ankle by the first cart in a line of shopping carts, being pushed towards me by a 115 year old 6 ft tall cart wrangler.

"Hey!" I yelled. "Watch where you are going."

"You're in the way." he replied.

I said, "No, you need to stop the carriages and ask me to get out of the way."

At this point Kevin McCrea says, "Can't we all just get along?"

Spring Awakening at the Colonial Theatre

Sexy time at the Colonial Theatre!

We saw Spring Awakening at the Colonial Theatre last night.

Lead actress Christy Altomare, as Wendla, was amazing. I also enjoyed the music, co-written by Duncan Sheik.

One thing that was confusing was that the parts of the parents and the teachers are all played by the same actors.

The play is a lot like RENT. Many adult situations were presented as these young adults deal with growing up at a time where they were still treated as children.

Jenna Scherer has a nice review in the Herald. She writes:
When they’re not being featured, cast members sit among the two-sided onstage audience or jam with the band upstage. Bill T. Jones’ expressive, energetic choreography evokes a very primal teenage frustration.

And then there’s Christine Jones’ set - a brick-wall blooming with neon lights and bizarre objets d’art. Kevin Adams’ lighting is almost a living creature, with candy-colored spotlights and hanging lanterns.
The lighting was very well done.

Tweetie for Mac: New Feature Requests

I'm enjoying using tweetie for Mac as my desktop twitter application. It's fast and doesn't take up a lot of resources. I've got a few new feature requests though.

Default Send From Account
I have two accounts on twitter, stevegarfield and stevegarfield2. stevegarfield2 is read only. I use the second account as the group feature that twitter doesn't have.

When I send a tweet from tweetie, I always want to send from stevegarfield and never from stevegarfield2.

* Can you make a Preference setting to choose a default send from account? *

Lengthen User Name Display

Also, I don't want to have to click to see which account I'm sending from every time, on the tweetie "New Tweet" window, my account name displays as "stevegar".

* Can you lengthen the display space on account name? *

Add User Name to Title Bar
When I click to follow someone, I don't know which account I'm in.

* Can you add current account name to the title bar? *

Add Page Title in Post with Tweetie Bookmarklet
Your bookmarklet, "Share with Tweetie", puts a URL in a create new tweet pop up window.

* Can you put Title of the page you are linking to in there too? *

Thanks for a great product.
